The FA of Wales decided on 14th March 2011 that all clubs that were then based in Flintshire would become part of the North East Wales FA from 1st August 2011. The boundary change had four consequences: a) The transfer of the entirety of the Deeside Sunday League, and its clubs, who were all based in Flintshire, the the NEWFA b) The transfer of entirety of the Clwyd Junior and Youth Football league, and its clubs (3 of whom would still be resident in NWCFA area, and would be given dispensation by NWCFA to continue to be members of this league if they so desired). c) The transfer of the Clwyd League, together with only those clubs who were resident in Flintshire and the existing area of NEWFA. This affected 18 of the then 42 clubs: Aston Park Rangers,,Aston Park Rangers Res, Brynford United, Caerwys, Caerwys Res, Connah's Quay Tigers, FC Nomads, Flint Mountain, Flint Town, Flint Town Youth, Gap Connah's Quay Res, Halkyn United, Holywell Town Res, Mostyn Dragons, Point of Ayr, Shotton Steel, Shotton Steel Res, Sychdyn. d) The North Wales Coast FA would create a new NWCFA league,(at level 5 of the FAW Pyramid) based in the eastern side of association’s area, to encompass the remaining 24 Clwyd League clubs who were then resident in NWCFA areas excluding Flintshire: 13 in the Denbighshire Area - Abergele Rovers, Abergele Dragons, Denbigh Town Res, Llandyrnog Res, Meliden, Prestatyn Town, Prestatyn Rovers, Rhuddlan Town, Rhuddlan Town Res, Rhyl, Rhyl Athletic, St Asaph, Y Glannau; and 11 in the Conwy Area -: Betws yn Rhos, Bro Cernyw, Cerrigydrudion, Glan Conwy, Llandudno Junction Res, Llandudno Res, Llannefydd, Llanrwst Res, Llansannan, Mochdre, Rhos United. This meant that the Clwyd League, formed in 1975, would be split into two separate new leagues, with one running in each area association. This followed the previous season’s decision to allow the Welsh Alliance to form a new second division, thus relegating the whole Clwyd League from Level 4 to Level 5. The knock-on effect of this was that in order to fall in line the Second Division of the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) had to directly affiliate to the FAW. As a result the North East Wales FA was left without a Saturday area League. The executive committee of the Clwyd Football League, under chairman Mark Goldsmith, met in Holywell to discuss in detail the FAW decision to implement the Flintshire boundary changes and their directive that the league in effect be split into two. The committee came to the decision that the only option available, would be for the Clwyd committee to meet with the officers of the FAW, and one representative from the NWCFA, &. the NEWFA. Once these negotiations were concluded the outcome was discussed at the Clwyd East Football League AGM at the Mountain Park Hotel, Flint on Thursday 7th July 2011 It was reported that the league structures had been approved by the FAW as follows: Clwyd East Football League Structure Premier Division: Acton Village, Aston Park Rangers, Brynford United, Caerwys, Connah's Quay Tigers, F.C.
